When Gordon Brown, UK’s Chancellor of Exchequer and the man tipped to be the next British Prime Minister, met Finance Minister Chidambaram on Thursday, it wasn’t just a courtesy call by a visiting dignitary. Brown joined other European leaders to pitch for Vodafone’s bid for Hutch.
“We have been assured a level plying field for Vodafone, which is how it should be for bids like these. The progress so far has made everybody happy,” said Gordon Brown, Chancellor of Exchequor, UK.
Just last week, Vodafone’s boss Arun Sarin was in India meeting key government officials and testing the regulatory waters here if his company were to buy HTIL’s stake in Hutch.
